The Don Bosco school cricketers from Egmore lifted the Vidya Mandir-Sportstar trophy in the final of this cricket tourney held at Amir Mahal grounds in Royapettah on Thursday.
This tourney is for city school boys under 14 years in age.
The Egmore boys batted first and raised a total of 130 for 8 wickets in the allotted 30 overs.
St Bede’s built up its innings but slowed down and dipped and were all out for 112 in 29.2 overs.
But there were some stars in the San Thome based side – Aditya Rishi took 3 wickets for 45 runs and batsmen S. Abhishek with 29 runs and Hemcharan with 34 runs went home happy with their performance.
The main guest at the prize distribution event was senior cricketer S. Venkatramana.
Don Bosco batsmen B Ashwin ( 42 runs) and Akram Khan (36 runs) top scored.
Stars of Vidya Mandir
Hosts Vidya Mandir have some young stars in their midst following this tourney.
P. Vidyut had a great spell in the semi-finals though his team lost a great match to St Bede’s – his bowling figures read – 6 overs, 2 maidens, 5 wickets 7 runs.
Vidyut resides at Ram Nivas apartments, Dr Ranga Road.
Batsman Ishwar Suresh scored 226 runs in 5 innings in this tourney. This resident of Oliver Road will be proud of the record.
Both players were given cups and certificates.
