A conference on ‘The Ramayana in Literature, Society and the Arts’ got underway on February 1 at the C P Ramaswamy Aiyar Foundation campus, Alwarpet.
Swami Dayananda Saraswathi released three books on this occasion including one titled ‘Sounrastra Sangeeta Ramayanam’ edited by Prof. T R Damodaran.
Dr Sarojini Varadappan spoke on this occasion as did guest Dr. Subramanian Swamy.
The conference continues on Feb.2 with scholars and researchers presenting papers at parallel sessions.
These guesta are from across India and some from Sri Lanka.
The finale is at 5 pm on Feb.2 Dr C V Vaidyanathan, Vice-chancellor of Sri Chandrasekarendra Saraswathi Viswa Mahavidyalaya, Kanchipuram will address the guests.
The sessions can be attended by those interested.
All through February, there are some unique cultural events. Sumathi Krishnan sings for a theme based ‘ Ramayana’ concert on Feb.1, 6 pm. Anita Ratnam talks on her production ‘ A Million Sitas’ on Feb.9, 10.30 am, Sita Kalyanam will be performed by Sri Murugan Sangeeta Bommalattam Sabha, Kumbakonam on Feb.16 at 10.30 am and Dr Prameela Gurumurthy does a Harikatha on Arunachala Kavirayar’s ‘ Ramanatakam – Feb.23, 10.30 am.
