Every year, a group of enthusiastic women, residents of Abbotsbury Apartments in Alwarpet get together to celebrate Thyagaraja aradhana.
This year was no exception.
Carrying on a tradition that is seven years old in this Alwarpet campus, a group led by Shankari, a trained Carnatic singer practised hard to make this year’s event a success.
The concert was held on February 23.
As the tradition goes, proceedings are preceded by blessings from Lord Ganesha. The residents then went on to perform the Pancharathna keerthanas accompanied by a young mridangist and a violinist.
They all sung in one voice and the rendition was a treat to the residents who had turned up as audience.
All five keerthanas were performed and received the warm appreciation of the audience.
The tribute was followed by solo performances by talented residents. This was followed by distribution of prasadam.
