A renovated pedestal and a fully cleaned statue of Gandhiji dominates the Marina Beach zone which will be the buzz point at the Republic Day event in Mylapore on January 26.
Over the past week, contractors have been leading workers to erect shamianas and pandals, fit audio systems and lighting and spruce up the place.
From the Light House end to the Lady Willingdon Education College end, shamianas will accommodate guests and pass-holders.
Tableaux which will form part of the procession are being readied. These and lots of groups of school kids who will present dances and folk arts will form the parade that will move north-south.
The chief minister and the governor will be present, at the special tent close to Gandhi statue.
Traffic will be diverted before 6 a.m. and those who wish to watch the parade can line up on the pavement on the beachside.
