S. Saraswathy, 86 years, wife of late S. Venkataraman (Royapettai Venkittu) who worked for the Customs passed away on June 15.
She was a resident of South Madras for the last six decades.
Saraswathy, used to render bhajans and devotional music, Annamacharya krithis and Vishnu Sahasranama.
She was an avid singer of Thiruppugazh, and was trained by late Kalyani Ramaswamy of Luz, Mylapore and guru A S Raghavan of New Delhi.
Saraswathy was a well known personality amongst rasikas of Carnatic music of the city sabhas and involved in spreading Bhakthi music appreciation, said a family member.
She is survived by four sons, V. Sundaram, retired DGM-SBI, V. Ram Gopal (RBI retd), V. Sridhar (SBI) and V. Mahalingam (Sriram, GOI-Delhi) and daughter V. Geetha, music and sloka teacher.
