S. Saraswathy, aged 86 passed away on June 15. She was the wife of late S. Venkataraman, (Royapettai Venkittu) , a retired Madras Customs official.
She was a resident of the South Madras neighbourhood (Royapettah, Mylapore, Mandaveli) for the last six decades.
Saraswathy used to render bhajans and devotional music, Annamacharya krithis and Vishnu Sahasranama, said a family member.
An avid singer of Thiruppugazh and was trained by late Kalyani Ramaswamy of Luz and guru A. S. Raghavan of New Delhi.
Saraswathy was a well known personality amongst rasikas of Carnatic music in the city Sabhas, her family says.
She was a connoisseur of fine art, crafts and Bathik painting.
She is survived by four sons V. Sundaram, retired DGM-State Bank, V. Ram Gopal, V. Sridhar and V. Mahalingam and daughter V. Geetha (music and sloka teacher, Sri Prakash Cultural & Heritage Research Centre, Chennai and All India Vishnu Sahasranama Federation – Chennai Chapter).
