K. S. Bhatt, Asst. Commissioner of Income Tax (retired in 1982) passed away on Jan.14. He was 87.
He was a resident of Mylapore for over 45 years.
He belonged to the Gujarati Khedawal community and was born in Thanjavur. He had his early education in various towns down south, before graduating from the
National College, Trichy.
He joined the Income Tax Department at Trichy in 1944. He rose through the ranks steadily and besides Chennai, served with distinction at many places like Madurai, Ooty, Salem and Vellore, before retiring at Chennai in 1982.
After retirement, he involved himself thoroughly in religious and social activities. He served as the President of the Kasturiba Club, a Mylapore-based childrens welfare club for over 25 years.
He also led the Vishnu Sahasranama chanting of the Suhasini Satsangam at Karneeswarar Temple, Mylapore for many years.
