V. R. Rathnam aged 90 passed away on 30 July. He was a resident of Mylapore for over eight decades.
He was a student of P. S. High School, Mylapore. He had worked as a cameraman for AVM Studios for more that two decades. He has worked for films in Tamil and Hindi like ‘Kalathur Kannama’, ‘Penn’, ‘Vazhkai’, ‘Bahar’ and ‘Ladaki’ and many others.
He was the cinematographer for MGR’s film ‘Madapura’. He has also worked with leading popular artists of yesteryears like MGR, Padmini, Raagini, Sowcarjanaki and Thangavelu.
He was honoured on the occasion of the golden jubilee of AVM on March 8, 1997 by the then chief minister of Tamil Nadu, M. Karunanidhi.
He is survived by his wife Balambal, son R. Shangaran and three daughters Jayanthi, Bharathy and Lalitha.
