B. Ramamurthi, a senior Fellow member of the Institution of Engineers passed away on February 2.
He was the son of K. Balasubramani Iyer and grandson of V. Krishnaswami Iyer, founder Indian Bank / Madras Sanskrit College / Venkataramana Ayurveda College / Madras Law Journal / Mylapore Club / South Indian National Association and Ranade Library All these institutions have completed 100 years of existence.
Ramamurthi was also the trustee of Madras Sanskrit College/Venkataramana Ayurveda College/Mylapore Club. He gave up his post of Presidency of Savitri Ammal Oriental School after serving nearly 30 years in 2009.
Ramamurthi’ was in charge of the construction projects of Gannon Dunkerley & Co and these include LIC building in Coimbatore, the old Marina Swimming Pool, the Boeing runway at the old Madras Airport. He was also in charge of the construction of the Veterinary College campus, Vepery.
He also oversaw the construction of several residential buildings at Mylapore owned by leading personalities which, his family said are still standing as strong as ever 40 years after they were built.
He is survived by two sons and two daughters. The family lives at 27, Krishnaswamy Avenue, Luz, Mylapore. Ph:24991201.
