Kojiki, a Bharatanatyam dance ballet based on Japanese mythology was held on February 3 at the Bharatiya Vidhya Bhavan, Mylapore.
Three young Japanese women Mako Satomi, Mari Sato and Maki Kuwaharao presented a story on the Japanese Gods, Izanami and Izanagi.
The recital was based on the adventures, battles and love of the Gods. It was dramatic and unfolded the human emotions of anger, sorrow and love.
Mako, one of the dancers said, “It was very difficult to understand the language and get the emotions. But I learn Bharatanatyam in Japan and every year we come to India to perform and I think we manage to give a good show.”
The dancers were accompanied Neela Sukhanya Srinivasan on the Nattuvangam, Kalaimamani Radha Badri, the vocalist, Ramesh Babu on the Mridangam, Kalaimamani T. K. Padmanaban on the violin, and B.Muthu Kumar on the flute.
