Parvathi Murali, a long time resident of Mylapore passed away on January 15 after a brief illness.
She studied at Queen Mary’s College and later at Lady Wellington Training College. Her passion was teaching Geography.
She started her teaching career in Saraswathi Vidhyalaya. After about 10 years, she joined the Geography Department of Adarsh Vidhyalaya, Royapettah and served for more than 25 years until her retirement.
She co-authored text books in Geography meant for students of Std II to Std IX for Matriculation schools. She took an active part in the Geography Association. She had participated in radio programmes and organised several cultural programmes (like Bommai Kalyanam) while she worked in Saraswathi Vidhyalaya.
She used to have Sai bhajans at her home every Wednesday.
She is survived by her husband S. Murali, two daughters, Srilatha Saikrishnan and Srividhya Sankar, a son, Srikrishna.
