Chennai Corporation workers have been demolishing encroachments on pavements and roads in the area.
They have begun knocking off pavement small temples.
The drive began with the Nagathammal Temple on 2nd Trust Main Road in Mandavelipakkam that was bulldozed on November 24.
30 more such temple have been listed in the area that will be brought down in the following weeks. A Christian place is also on that list.
A senior engineer in the Corporation said that all these encroachments would be brought down with in a period of two or three months.
Till now about eight pavement temples have been demolished in Zone 10, he says.
The demolition work have been stopped for a while due to the rains, he said.
Some temples that will have to go are the Amman Temple in 10th Trust Cross Street, Vinayagar Temple in R.K. Mutt Road and Nagamman Temple in School View Road.
The list shows that these places occupy areas between 100 sq.ft. to 300 sq.ft.Some have existed for years.
