A project to recognise Vedic pandits was started in 1995 by the devotes of Sri Guru Gangeswaranandaji, who was a renowned scholar of all the four Vedas and Vedangas under the administration of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan.
The Puraskar award carries a purse of Rs. 1 lakh, a citation, a shawl and a garland.
So far about 45 scholars in Vedas have been selected and six Veda Pundits will receive Veda Ratna Puraskar on October 24.
This Puraskar will be presented by Sri Jayendra Saraswathi Swamigal of Kanchi Kamakoti Peetham at a function to be held on Sunday, October 24 at 3 p.m. at Bhavan’s auditorium, Mylapore. The pontiff will deliver the “Anugraha Bhashanam” after honouring the pandits.
