With Navaratri round the corner, it is time for exhibitions and sales of Kolu dolls.
C. P. Art Centre on Eldams Road has an exhibition and sale of traditional dolls at the Vennirul Art Gallery from September 22 to October 15 (Sunday is a holiday).
It is open between 10 a.m. and 7 p.m.
Dolls from Kondapalli, Ettikopakka and Chennapatna made from glass, terracotta, clay, cloth and marble powder are on display. They are priced from Rs.5 to Rs.2000.
Elsewhere, hawkers have begun to descend on the mada veedhis of Mylapore and set up shop to sell dolls.
Few hawkers were seen on the pavements of North Mada Street mid-week.
This and the adjoining lanes will turn into a marketplace for dolls in a week’s time.
The roadside displays attract lots of people, not only from Mylapore but from areas like Gopalapuram, Adyar and Mambalam too.
