Svanubhava: fest for students of classical dance and music will be in two local schools

Svanubhava, a fest for students of classical dance and music in Chennai is back this year and it seems bigger too, going by the additional campus venues and the range of acts it covers.

To be held from August 2 to 7, jointly by Matrka (a body promoted by artistes T. M. Krishna and Bombay Jayashri) and YACM (Youth Assn. for Classical Music) this year the fest covers not only music and dance but also theatre and folk arts.

It was launched at Kalakshetra campus on Aug.2 with a special concert featuring Nedunuri Krishnamurthy and the Malladi Brothers. The fest will move on to a few other venues in the city.

Among them are Chettinad Harishree Vidyalayam school in R. A. Puram, Music Academy and Vidya Mandir school, Luz.

The events at Chettinad Harishree Vidyalayam will be held on August 4. There will be a performance by the students of the school, Pancha Vadhyam concert by Chottanikkara Subash Narayana Marar, Vina concert by E. Gayathri, talk on ‘Music in Films’ by Rajiv Menon and S. P. Balasubramaniam, special concert by O. S. Thyagarajan, O. S. Sundar and O. S. Arun and party.

The event on August 6 will be held at Teachers’ College of Music, Music Academy. There will be performances by the students of Music Academy, a concert by N. Rajam, Sangeetha Shankar, Ragini Shankar and Nandini Shankar with Ojas Adhiya, dance by Malavika Sarukkai, a concert by S. Shashank with B.U. Ganesh Prasad, Parupalli Phalgun, Sai Giridhar, a retro on T. Viswanathan by Sriram Parasuram and Anooradha Sriram.

On August 7, the fest moves to Vidya Mandir campus. There will be performances by the school students, a concert by Hyderabad Brothers (D. Raghavachari and D. Seshachari) and one by S. Sowmya and Nithyasree Mahadevan, a debate, ‘Varakari Sampradaya Harikeerthan’ by Tukaram Ganapathy Maharaj and a treasure hunt.
